Trailer Tracking Management

SilverStar - a leading developer of wireless asset management products - has created a unique solution tailored for Trailer Tracking.

The Challenge:

Fleet managers understand that they must always know certain basic facts about each trailer, such as:
  • Where is the trailer located?
  • Is it currently tethered to a tractor, or is it un-tethered?

Unfortunately, current methods for trailer tracking are often expensive, inefficient, time-consuming, or error-prone. As a result, many enterprises lose a significant portion of their fleet value due to abuse, under-utilization, misplacement, or even theft.
Managing a fleet of out-of-sight trailers can be a daunting task - but SilverStar can help.

The Solution:
SilverStar trailer tracking is a cost-effective wireless monitoring solution that enables organizations to easily manage their trailers, whether they are tethered to a tractor or not. The total solution consists of:

  • An SilverStar monitoring unit - called the MAT 500T - installed on the trailer. The MAT 500T will monitor the status of the trailer and will immediately send a message each time that the trailer is tethered to a tractor, and each time the trailer is un-tethered from a tractor.
  • An SilverStar -provided website to deliver Location Reports, History Logs, and other management info.

In addition to SilverStar, SilverStar also offers asset management for other industrial solutions such as crane management, refrigerated van management and GPS for automobiles.

    Trailer Tracking Web Services:
  • All reports and alerts are accessible through a simple web interface. The latest report from each trailer is immediately displayed upon login.
  • The web interface is powerful, intuitive, and easy to use.
  • A History Log reports all trailer tracking communications to and from each vehicle.

    Trailer Tracking Features & Benefits:
  • Status Alerts
The monitoring unit will immediately report each time that the trailer is tethered to a tractor, and each time that it is untethered from a tractor. Each report includes the trailer’s location.
  • Two Modes of Operation
  • Responding to the status of the trailer, the trailer tracking unit will operate in two modes:
    • Tethered Mode: the monitoring unit will accept power from the tractor's electrical system, and will send reqularly-scheduled Location Reports every fifteen minutes. While in its Tethered Mode, the unit can be polled at will by authorized users, thereby allowing them to gain "up-to-the-minute" updates at any time.
    • Un-Tethered Mode: the trailer tracking unit will operate by using its built-in battery, and will send a new Location Report every seven days for a period of up to four weeks. The unit cannot be polled while in its Un-Tethered Mode.
  • Trailer Tracking Location Reports
All reports include Location information, including detailed maps. Users can select either a "Street View," "Satellite View," or a "Hybrid View" (Satellite plus Street). In some cases a "Bird's Eye View" is also available.
  • On-Demand Location Reports
Users can command the remote trailer tracking unit to send an up-to-the-minute Location Report at any time while the Trailer is tethered. The On-Demand Location Reports enable fleet managers to ascertain the location of any tethered trailer, at any time.
  • Tracking Reports
The SilverStar solution retains all Location Reports in its database. These reports can be viewed at will, enabling users to easily track each Trailer's location over any period of time. The Trailer Tracking Reports can be used to improve Customer Billing, for Project Management, and for other applications.
  • History Log
All communications to and from the remote monitoring unit are retained in a History Log, which enables users to easily review how each trailer has been used.
