Pump Management

SilverStar- a leading developer of Remote asset management products - has created a unique solution tailored for remote irrigation system and pump management.

The Challenge:
A typical farm has several pieces of irrigation equipment dispersed over a wide geography. Field managers must know at all times if

  • any pump has shut down unexpectedly
  • any pump's fuel tank is low
  • the output water pressure on any pump has dropped
  • if anything has gone wrong with any pump
In short, field managers must know if the pumps are operating properly. Unfortunately, current methods for managing field pumps and irrigation systems are manual, time-consuming and error-prone.

SilverStar can help.
The Solution:
SilverStar pump tracking is a wireless solution for remote pump management. It automatically reports the location, status, and condition of any pump. SilverStar reports each time the pump's engine is turned ON or OFF; it reports the pump's Engine Run-Hours; and it can send real-time Alert Notifications if a Fault occurs. With the optional water pressure sensor, SilverStar can also report if the pump's output pressure has dropped below a user-specified threshold. SilverStar remote pump management is web-based and easy to use. In addition to SilverStar, SilverStar also offers asset management for other industrial solutions such as water chiller management, crane tracking and fleet vehicle management.

    The fleet-pump solution consists of:
  • A monitoring unit installed on the pump
  • An optional SilverStar -provided sensor to monitor water pressure
  • An SilverStar -provided website for full reporting & control
  • Real-time Alert Notifications delivered as text messages to cell phones; or delivered via e-mail

Pump Tracking Web Service and Alert Notifications:
  • All reports and alerts are accessible through a simple web interface. The latest report from each pump is immediately displayed upon login.
  • Alert Notifications are targeted to specific recipients according to the type of violation. Alerts can be sent in the form of text messages to cell phones, and/or as e-mail messages.
  • The simple-to-use web interface is powerful, but easy to use.
  • A History Log reports all communications to and from each pump.

    Pump Management Features & Benefits:
  • Report unexpected Shutdowns: SilverStar provides real-time Alert Notifications if a pump unexpectedly shuts down.
  • Report water pressure problems: The optional water pressure sensor can send real-time Alert Notifications if the output water pressure drops below a user-defined threshold.
  • Maintenance Services: SilverStar pump tracking service automatically reports each pump's current Engine Run-Hours, and can issue "Service Due" reminders when each pump is due for maintenance.
  • Manpower: SilverStar can eliminate unnecessary trips to collect hour-meter readings or to check the pump's fuel tank.
  • Faults: SilverStar can be connected to a pump's control panel to report upon any five user-defined Faults. When a Fault occurs, SilverStar pump management can issue real-time Alert Notifications in the form of text messages and/or as e-mail messages.
  • Low Pressure Alert: An SilverStar -provided water pressure sensor is optionally available. The pressure sensor allows users to specify a minimum output water pressure for each pump. If the water pressure drops below the threshold, SilverStar pump tracking can send real-time Alert Notifications to the appropriate individuals.
  • Battery Monitoring: The monitoring unit continually check's the pump's battery. If the battery level drops too low, the monitoring unit will send a "Low Battery" Alert Notification. If it detects that the battery has been disconnected, the monitoring unit will utilize its built-in backup battery to continue operating, and to send a "Battery Tamper" Alert Notification.
  • Backup Battery: The monitoring unit includes a built-in backup battery that enables it to continue functioning if the main battery has failed or been disconnected.
  • PowerSave Mode: The monitoring unit will automatically enter its PowerSave mode after the pump's engine has been turned off. The PowerSave mode reduces the monitoring unit's power consumption to protect the pump's battery. All regularly-scheduled reports and alert notifications will continue while the unit is in PowerSave mode.
  • Improve accountability and regulatory compliance: SilverStar pump management solutions enables users to identify when and where each pump was utilized. This information can help fleet managers to optimize field operations, and it can also be used to meet governmental reporting requirements, if required (notably for the California Air Resources Board).
